The Divine Wolf... or?

Chapter 155: Making lives easier, what could go wrong?

Chapter 155: Making lives easier, what could go wrong?

Though they were being healed, they could see that they weren't welcome here by observing the faces of everyone present. Even the golden gaze of the wolf that was healing them contained some hidden intentions. Even though they were sure that they had been polite for most of the time, they were still being looked down on like this.

Since that was the case, they were determined to just quietly and quickly leave once they had healed.

They didn't really know why they were being looked at like this, but they assumed that they were just being a nuisance, and disturbing their rest. They still felt that the looks they were getting were a little too overbearing, but what could they do about it? Ark didn't waste any time and just kept releasing waves after waves of golden mana, he almost resembled a deity in a way.

He soon abruptly stopped releasing mana, and stopped healing the twins, they had been healed thoroughly, and Ark just stood there, waiting for them to leave like they had promised they would. The atmosphere quickly turned awkward, but the trio took the blatantly obvious hint, and left. Seeing the trio being on their way, Ark felt relieved, at least no one would be bothering them for the time being.

With that said, it didn't take more than a minute before the sounds of battle reached their ears.

Ark wasn't even surprised at this point, and instead of waiting around, he just nodded at everyone else, then swiftly left. If the twins were injured seriously again, then they would probably come and ask him for help again. Ark didn't want to wait around for that, and he decided to just help them before they get injured this time.

Lending a helping hand to such powerhouses meant that the enemy was most likely powerful, which was a chance for him to level up.

With that said Ark disappeared from where he was standing, and considering how close the battle was, he arrived in a matter of seconds when he ran as fast as he could. Though he made sure to be fast, he also made sure to not make much noise, as he didn't want to alert anyone unless necessary, a sneak attack was usually a lot more powerful compared to a normal attack.

Not because the inherent power was any different, but the opponents defence wouldn't be as tough.

When he was about to enter the fray of the battle, a tree was suddenly sent flying his way. This was nothing to Ark, as he could easily dodge it, but it was still proof of the level of battle that was taking place here. As Ark inspected the battlefield, his expression quickly changed. The high-level battle that he was expecting was surprisingly against a squadron of goblins.

What was abnormal about these goblins was the fact that their skin was completely pitch-black, and their eyes shone with an eerie scarlet shade.

Unlike normal goblins, these goblins were quite organised in the battle. In the front, 4 warriors were currently contending with one of the twins in combat. In the backline, 3 magicians conjured up different types of magic and hurled them at the twin. Fortunately, the twin had his young lady supporting him, and she was able to contend with these goblin magicians all by herself.

The second twin was currently locked in one-on-one combat with another monster. This monster quite resembled the pitch-black goblins, but he was at least 3 times larger than they were.

His height reached over 3 meters, and as Ark inspected him, a small text popped up. "Mutated Ogre"

This mutated Ogre was overpowering to say the least, and the twin that was supposed to take care of him was on the defensive. Ark thought that these twins were supposed to be stronger than this, but as he saw them battle, he realised the truth. They were tired.

Not only had they lost a lot of blood and already been through a really rough battle, but they had then been healed just to go back to fight once more. Not only that, but healing magic could be quite tiring on the body and soul sometimes, especially if the injuries were severe.

Since they seemed to be in a stalemate at the moment, Ark figured that he might as well help them. It wasn't like he would lose anything from it, and he would get some experience points as well. Having strong people owe you a favour was nice too, since you never know what you might need in the future.

Since his stealth skill was already activated, Ark figured that it was probably best if he got rid of the largest threat first, since the twin that was fighting with the ogre seemed to be in a bit of a pickle.

He snuck up behind it to the best of his abilities, while still making sure that the ogre didn't sense his presence. Even though the brute was quite simpleminded, its battle instincts were superb, and it wouldn't easily fall for a sneak attack. Though he said that, Ark was confident in his abilities, after all, he had magic to aid his physical prowess.

This ogre didn't have any magical capabilities, and considering its resistance to physical attacks, Ark guessed that magic was its inherent weakness.

There was no way to know for sure, except to just test it out himself. The ogre wielded a large broadsword, and the intense clashes of their swords deafened everyone in their surroundings considerably. Ark waited patiently for his opportunity which soon presented itself. The twin was beginning to grow tired and the ogre managed to find an opening in his defence.

Seeing this opening, the ogre instantly attacked with a horizontal cleave, if it wasn't handled properly, the twin would surely be cut in half.

Even though the twin would be able to deal with the attack and counterattack, there would be costs, and he quickly tried to calculate if it was worth it. In the ogre's eyes, he just stood still, and the ogre assumed he had already given up. It laughed crazily while the sword was still in motion. This was it! A piercing sound was heard, and the ogre's laugh was abruptly cut short.

When the twin saw a frozen hole in the middle of the ogre's ugly face, he instantly retreated.

Even though the ogre was already dead, its attack wouldn't stop. It lost a considerable amount of power, but most humans would still be cleaved in two by the attack. Of course, the twin wasn't like most humans, and he just quickly dodged the sword. Ark managed to kill the ogre in one shot, and hearing the notification of a level up, he was a little satisfied with himself.

Although that was the case, he didn't dare to laze around.

There were still plenty of enemies around to defeat, and if he didn't take care of them, then he wouldn't get any experience! He had already saved these people, at this point he was just making their lives a little easier. And if he could make others' lives easier by strengthening himself, then were was the drawback?
